Mark Zuckerberg Gets Married With Priscilla Chan [BREAKING NEWS]

Mark Zuckerberg Gets Married With Priscilla Chan [BREAKING]

In a surprise ceremony, Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg married his longtime girlfriend, Priscilla Chan, in a private wedding at his home in Palo Alto California on Saturday.

Zuckerberg, who just became a billionaire as a result of the Facebook IPO on Friday, reportedly placed a ring on his wife’s finger during the ceremony — the ring, said to be designed by Zuckerberg himself, was described as featuring a “very simple ruby.”

According to the Associated Press, Zuckerberg’s marriage to Priscilla Chan took place in front of about 100 invited guests who thought they were celebrating Ms. Chan’s medical school graduation. It all happened in Zuckerberg’s backyard.

Take a look at Zuckerberg’s personal page on Facebook, and you’ll see the above picture, which Zuckerberg reportedly placed onto his own site as a change of his status after the ceremony.

The couple met while both were attending Harvard, and have been together for nine years.

Controversial ‘Time’ Cover Got Twitter Users React

Twitter Users React to Controversial ‘Time’ Cover
10/05/2012 by Christine Erickson on Mashable

Time unveiled a very revealing cover for its latest issue, and Twitter users have had plenty to say about it.

The cover features Jamie Lynne Grumet, a 26-year-old California mom, shown breast-feeding her son Aram, who turns four next month. In the issue — titled, “Are You Mom Enough?” — Grumet is interviewed about her parenting decisions and the modern relationship between mother and baby.

Internet users responded quickly to the cover — it has already been Photoshopped, criticized and applauded.

Due to the provocative nature of the image and its widespread popularity, some feel that the cover is hurting the boy’s reputation in the future. Some feel that it’s exploiting mothers. Others have found humor in the cover, manipulating the image and the topic by referencing other bits of pop culture.

Here’s a round-up of what Twitter users have to say about the controversial topic. Do you agree with anyone in the gallery? Let us know in the comments.

Grumet herself has already tweeted about the magazine's release, followed by several retweets fromTime and Twitter users promoting the interview.

Some users Photoshopped the boy into famous paintings, like this one that Greg Daly made with "The Birth of Venus."

However, Max Read at Gawker seems to have been one of the first to use Photoshop on the cover, referencing Princess Diana's similar choice to breastfeed her children.

Erik Hinton at the New York Times claims to be the first person to make a meme of the cover photo with this image.

Dave Itzkoff at the New York Times noted the similarity in appearance between Grumet and singer Jewel.

Grumet was also confused by many as a character from Game of Thrones, who is featured in this version of the cover by Ashley Burns of UPROXX.

More people like Isaac Kozell found similarities between the Time cover and the controversial "naked baby" artwork on Nirvana's 1991 album Nevermind.

More controversial pop culture references, like Alicia Silverstone's child feeding habits, were brought up by comedian Danny Zuker.

Evie Nagy, managing editor of RollingStone.com, echoed much of the sentiment on Twitter regarding the boy's future.

The boy's social reputation for being on the cover, as Michael Schur points out, was also a hot topic

Others, like actress Alyssa Milano, were concerned about other mothers who choose to breastfeed their children, saying it's "exploitive."

There were also some who felt the cover's shock value was a simple buzz play. Comedian Lauren Ashley Bishop's threw this jab.

Some, like Entertainment Weekly columnist Mark Harris, applauded the magazine for its bold creativity.

NBC Politics Launches Free Elections App for iPad and iPhone

NBC Politics Launches Free Elections App for iPad and iPhone
May 3, 2012 by Alex Fitzpatrick on Mashable

NBC Politics launched a new iPad and iPhone app Thursday that lets users keep tabs on the latest news coming out of the 2012 race to the White House.
The app, which is free, first opens to a page of recent headlines. Users can tap a headline to get the full story, including images and video. A daily “tip sheet,” which is a round-up briefing of the latest political news and headlines, is also included in the app. Candidate profiles give users full biographies of the presidential candidates. Also featured: Video clips taken directly from the latest episodes of NBC’s many news shows.
“With all eyes on the 2012 election, the NBC Politics App delivers the best political content and reporting -– wherever you are,” said David Gregory, moderator of NBC News’ Meet the Press. “This all-access, easy-to-navigate resource puts the full power of NBC News in your hands, from the top headlines and stories to innovative features that allow serious political junkies to dig even deeper.”
For you political geography geeks out there, the app has two different sets of maps: one that shows real-time results from primaries and, eventually, the general election, and another that’s a game-based election simulator.
The real-time results map is visually inviting and simple to use, although the county-by-county results pull down from an outside web page, which can feel awkward and is occasionally buggy. However, if the data gets updated promptly on election nights, it could prove to be an excellent poll-watching tool.
The simulator presents a national election map, then challenges users to guess which way each of the 50 states will lean – heavily Democrat or Republican, slightly Democrat or Republican or neutral. Depending on your guesses, either Barack Obama or Mitt Romney is bestowed the presidential seal.
The truly nerdy amongst us will be disappointed to know that you can’t — yet — predict results on a county-by-county basis.

There’s a sharing element, too — users can easily post articles or video from the app to their Facebook or Twitter feeds.

NBC’s new app was designed by Method, and is available for download in the App Store.

Sky News clamps down on Twitter use

Sky News clamps down on Twitter use
Reporters banned from reposting non-company tweets and told to check with the news desk before breaking news stories
Sky News reporters

Sky News has told its journalists not to repost information from any Twitter users who are not an employee of the broadcaster.

An email to staff on Tuesday laid out new social media guidelines for Sky News employees, including a contentious ban on retweeting rival "journalists or people on Twitter".

The new guidelines also warn Sky News journalists to "stick to your own beat" and not to tweet about non-work subjects from their professional accounts.

Sky News has cultivated a reputation for digital innovation and has used Twitter to break news on events including the Arab Spring uprising and England riots. Journalists at the broadcaster expressed shock and dismay at the new guidelines, which they claim are a retrograde step.

The email to staff, which has been seen by MediaGuardian, said: "So, to reiterate, don't tweet when it is not a story to which you have been assigned or a beat which you work.

"Where a story has been Tweeted by a Sky News journalist who is assigned to the story it is fine, desirable in fact, that it is retweeted by other Sky News staff.

"Do not retweet information posted by other journalists or people on Twitter. Such information could be wrong and has not been through the Sky News editorial process."

The email says that the guidelines have been introduced "to ensure that our journalism is joined up across platforms, there is sufficient editorial control of stories reported by Sky News journalists and that the news desks remain the central hub for information going out on all our stories".

The email said: "1. Don't tweet when it's someone else [sic] story. Stick to your own beat. 2. Always pass breaking news lines to the news desk before posting them on social media networks."

It added that "on a number of occasions" those guidelines have been flouted "resulting in us running different information on Twitter other Sky platforms or the news desks learning from Twitter details that should have been first passed on to them".

The guidelines on checking tweets with Sky News news desk do not apply to "verbatim reporting" on Twitter of court cases, parliament or judicial inquiries "to which you have been assigned".

A Sky News spokeswoman said: "Sky News has the same editorial procedures across all their platforms including social media to ensure the news we report is accurate."
