However, even though the phone is not as exciting as we thought, there were still were plenty of funny reactions to it!

Is This the Most-Viewed Photo of All Time?

It may not be as well known as the Mona Lisa, but Charles O’Rear’s photo, Bliss, may have been viewed as many times, if not more.
Published in 2002, the photo got most of its distribution as the default desktop wallpaper for Microsoft’s Windows XP’s “Luna” theme. O’Rear snapped the photo while he was on break from another assignment in California’s Napa Valley. O’Rear, a former National Geographic staffer, didn’t disclose what Microsoft paid for rights to the photo, but O’Rear has said it’s “extraordinary.”
Long acknowledged for its exposure across the globe, the photo drew attention once again on Monday when a photo blog claimed the audience for the photo at 1 billion. The entry got wide circulation on Google+.
However, O’Rear told Mashable that the 1 billion figure “has always been a guesstimate.” However, “All the folks I talk with agree it is the most ‘recognizable’ photo ever. If it were shown to a villager in rural China, for example, good chance they would recognize it. If it were shown to astronauts on the ISS, good bet they would know it, too. I have seen it appear in photos of the White House situation room, the Kremlin, etc.”

This 121-Megapixel Photo of Earth Will Make Your Jaw Drop

Need something to put things into perspective on a Monday morning? Our suggestion: The largest single-shot photo of Earth ever taken.
Eclipsing NASA’s updated “Blue Marble” shot, which is a composite of many satellite images, this image is a single-shot taken from 22,369 miles away by Russian weather satellite Elektro-L No.1.
The colors on the 121-megapixel photo are quite different from the ones on NASA’s photos of Earth. To capture the image, the satellite combines visible and infrared wavelengths of light. Infrared light is used to see plants, which is why the parts of the Earth that would normally be green are seen as rusty brown.
Check out a time-lapse video of Earth’s northern hemisphere taken by Elektro-L below.

You know those futuristic augmented reality glasses Google‘s been developing? A Googler recently posted a photo showing more of what you’ll be able to do with the sci-fi spectacles.
Google launched its Project Glass on Google+ last month, sending techies and futurists into a minor hysteria. The glasses — which don’t actually feature lenses, according to preliminary photos released by the company — will project augmented reality images into wearers’ field of vision. So when you wake up in the morning, for example, you’ll see weather forecasts, appointments and online correspondences projected in front of your eyes. Google has already released a concept video for the devices, and posted shots of people modeling early designs (see gallery below).
But this week, the world got another small glimpse at what the Google glasses will be able to do. Sebastian Thrun, a computer scientist and Google Fellow, posted a photo to his Google+ page of himself twirling his young son around in a circle. The shot shows a perfect point-of-view composition, with Thrun’s arms and son in clear focus as the background grass blurs. It’s not clear how he took the picture — a voice command? Eye gesture? — but the shot does indicate some pretty cool capabilities for the gadgets.
The New York Times reported in February that the glasses may be available to the public by the end of this year for roughly the cost of a smartphone — indicating they are meant to be a consumer product. But a Google spokesperson told Mashable last month that the glasses going on sale in 2012 is “extremely unlikely.”

Google Doodle Pays Homage to Street Photographer Robert Doisneau

Today’s Google Doodle features photographs from the famed French photographer Robert Doisneau on his 100th birthday.
Born April 14, 1912, Doisneau was one of the original street photographers — he wandered the streets of Paris snapping away with his Leica camera decades before thousands of Brooklyn’s hipsters would do the same throughout Williamsburg.
Doisneau picked up street photography at the age of 16. He entered the world of professional photography in a creative graphics studio and was later hired by French carmaker Renault. After being fired, he became a professional photojournalist and never looked back. He served as a war photographer during World War II and was appointed a Knight of the French Legion of Honor before he died in 1994.
“Le baiser de l’hôtel de ville (Kiss by the Town Hall),” a photograph of lovers kissing in the streets of Paris taken in 1950, became his most famous work. Doisneau was once sued by a couple that mistakenly believed themselves to be the pair in the photograph, because French law dictates that a person owns the copyright to their own likeness.
Doisneau won the case after revealing that he asked a different couple for permission to take the photograph. “Lovers kissing in the street, those couples are rarely legitimate,” he said while explaining why he didn’t take the shot without permission.
