Facebook closed its first day of public trading valued at $105.19 billion, making it worth almost exactly as much as PepsiCo, which is valued at $106.5 billion.
At more than $100 billion, Facebook doesn’t quite make it into the leagues of Coca-Cola, worth $167 billion, or Wal-Mart, worth $212 billion. Nor does it yet compete with tech giants Google, worth $196 billion; Microsoft, worth $246 billion; or Apple, worth $496 billion.
However, being the largest Internet IPO in history does get you somewhere. We’ve rounded up five companies you probably perceive to be enormous, which are now worth less than 8-year-old Facebook.

Via NikonRumors, this is something everyone should know about: a do-it-yourself $30 wifi kit for the Nikon D4! It really speaks for itself. Read on for the details. Who knows, maybe something similar could be done for the 1D X. I wouldn’t be surprised at all…

The NR reader Voudas sent me this inexpensive alternative for controlling your NikonD4 camera through WiFi:
“The idea was to connect the small VAP11G portable WiFi bridge device (available on eBay and Amazon) to the D4′s Ethernet port in order to use it through WiFi. I setup the Ethernet connection of the D4 and then used the VAP11G device to connect through my WiFi. I then used my laptop and iPhone to check the WiFi connectivity with the D4. It worked like a charm!
The limitation of the device is that it didn’t act as an access point – it would always need an established WiFi network, but the important thing was to prove that the price of the WT-5 price is ridiculously high ($877) and the VAP11G does the same thing for around $30. This limitation could probably be eliminated with the Asus WL-330gE wireless access point.”

The Japanese blog, Macotakara recently brought to our attention NoteBookCase for iPad 2, a new case that converts an iPad into a mini laptop. The case features a Lithium-polymer auxiliary battery in the body to extend intervals between charges, a full size bluetooth-enabled keyboard, USB port, and mini USB port.
Available on Japanese retailer Rakuten and Amazon for 5,980 yen (or approximately $75), the description specifies that the case is not compatible with the new iPad, but we think with the minimal size difference of the new iPad might mean it’s compatible, too.

Nokia held a huge launch party for the Lumia 900 in NYC’s Times Square on Friday night. But when it came time for the phone’s release on Sunday it was hard to find the handset anywhere near where the celebration was.
According to New York Times writer Brian Chen, nearly all 39 AT&T stores located near Times Square were either closed for Easter Sunday, or did not answer phone calls when he called to inquire about the handset’s availability. The stores that were closed also played an automated message that advertised the availability of the iPhone 4S — but didn’t mention the Nokia Lumia 900′s existence.
The Lumia 900 handset runs on AT&T’s super-fast LTE network. The HTC Titan II is currently the only other Windows Phone smartphone that is capable of doing the same.
The Nokia smartphone sports a unique high-quality design, and has been a hit with reviewers, many who have called the handset the world’s best Windows Phone 7 handset.
The $99 Lumia 900 is Nokia and Microsoft’s best horse in the smartphone race, and both companies have a lot riding on its success. iPhone and Android have a stronghold in the smartphone market in the United States, and both companies need a winner to put both Nokia and Windows Phone on the map stateside.
Prior to its launch, AT&T said that the Lumia 900 would be “one of its biggest launches ever”. Advertising for the handset has likened it to the iPhone, and Nokia even launched a nationwide ad campaign called “smartphonbetatest” — implying that the all other smartphones prior to the launch of the 900 were just beta versions.
The smartphonebetatest site counted down to zero when the phone was supposed to be revealed. But the ultimate effect of it was somewhat dampened. The clock hit zero at least three times Friday evening, then added an arbitrary amount of time.
Launch day woes don’t seem to have affected Nokia’s sales of the Lumia 900, however. The phone was available for pre-order before Sunday, and made its way into the hands of customers over the weekend. The handset is also currently the top selling phone on Amazon (taking both the #1 and #2 slots), a coveted title definitely worth getting excited about.

By Todd Wasserman on MashableAmazon is testing a service that lets tablet users buy subscriptions and individual items via apps, according to a report.
Bloomberg quotes Maria Ly, co-founder of Skimble, which sells physical fitness programs, in the report.
Ly told the news service that she’s been involved in Amazon’s pilot program for about a month. “We really wanted to attack the Kindle Fire market, but also have access to the payment methods that support our business,” Ly told Bloomberg. “It’s still kind of in its early stages,” Ly said of the services being tested. “But we’re very optimistic about it.” Amazon plans to charge a 30% commission for such in-app transactions.
Reps from Amazon could not be reached for comment on the report.
Though Amazon has designed Kindle and Kindle Fire to make it easy to buy from the company’s online retail store, in-app purchases is a new type of revenue stream. In-app purchases were a $970 million and will hit $5.6 billion in revenues by 2015, according to IHS.
Amazon’s move comes after Google greenlit in-app purchases for Android developers last March. Apple implemented in-app billing for iOS in 2009.
